Maryland HVAC Rebates and Eligibility

Heating and cooling upgrades may qualify for utility incentives. Eligibility depends on your home, equipment, participating provider and current program funding.

Program status checked October 6, 2026. Federal homeowner credits 25C and 25D are unavailable for new installations after December 31, 2025. Maryland HEAR and HOMES rebates have not launched. On September 30, 2026, the Maryland Energy Administration submitted updated applications for both programs to the U.S. Department of Energy. Confirm current utility funding before committing to work.

Start with the condition of your system

Have a qualified HVAC professional assess repair options, heating and cooling loads, ductwork and installation requirements. Compare total project cost and expected performance before choosing replacement.

Equipment and ratings

  • Air conditioners: check the required SEER2 and EER2 ratings for the exact matched system.

  • Heat pumps: review both heating and cooling performance and backup-heat needs.

  • Gas furnaces: check AFUE and whether your gas utility has a program for your address.

  • Ask for the model numbers and AHRI certificate where the program requires one.

No universal efficiency cutoff guarantees a rebate

A rating alone does not establish eligibility. Programs may consider existing equipment, home type, measured savings, approved providers and funding. Get written confirmation for the complete proposed system before installation.

Budget for the complete installation

Include duct or electrical work, permits, controls and commissioning in the quote. Ask which incentive is already reflected in the price and who will receive it. Avoid adding multiple advertised maximums to estimate your savings.

Installation and documentation

  • Use the program's required contractor and approval process.

  • Ask for appropriate load sizing and humidity control.

  • Keep the invoice, equipment details and required test results.

  • Confirm submission deadlines before work starts.
